Another field trip with ICS, we went to tour the Great Mosque in Cordoba.
Another stunning and significant monument. I really enjoyed this tour, and learned a lot. The Great Mosque of Cordoba, also known as the Mezquita, began as a Christian church during the Visigothic period before being transformed into a mosque following the Islamic conquest of the Iberian Peninsula. Under Muslim rule, the mosque underwent significant expansions and renovations, showcasing remarkable Islamic architectural features such as horseshoe arches, intricate geometric patterns, and a forest of columns. Following the Reconquista, the mosque was converted into a Catholic cathedral, leading to further modifications and additions.
